Family Fun
We took the boys to the Family Fun Center in Wilsonville recently. Silas was beyond thrilled about doing the go karts. Driving is one of his greatest aspirations right now, but he was also happy to get to "go zoom really really fast!"

The Zoo: 2011
Last month we embarked on a trip to the zoo, which has become an annual tradition for the boys and their cousins.
We saw some pretty birds:
Some ugly hippos:
A bald eagle:
And some monkeys:
Oh wait, we brought those.

A big 4-year-old
Silas was extremely excited about turning 4 this month... honestly, I think he can't wait to be 16. His big aspirations: driving, flying and going places all by himself.
We had family over for a little party. I think next year, after a year of preschool, he's going to want a real birthday party with a theme, and friends, so this was my last year getting off easy with a BBQ & a movie.
His cake request was a "rocket" - again, he really, really, wishes he could fly. Since Papa bought him a toy Shuttle at the Air & Space Museum 2 years ago, the cake was modeled after that. When given a list of shuttle names to pick from, he chose "Atlantis." As Matt says, "that's good since it's the only one that is still going to fly." [On its final mission in space right now as this is posted]
And, of course, there were presents:
His adventurous side came out... he busted out his new roller skates right away and then took a ride with Uncle Andy on his motorcycle!
I was talking to Silas one day soon after his birthday, and I told him, "I can't believe you're 4. What am I going to do with a four-year-old?"

Hmm, what's in here?
FOUR "monies"!

Silas, shrugging with that sweet little smile, replied, "You could take him on an airplane trip."

Slip 'n' Slide
Silas got a slip 'n' slide for his birthday. His brother took right to it, but he's been a bit more hesitant. This 1 minute video captures their personalities perfectly.
